Welcome to my world of guiding

My name is Laura Tislerics, a licensed tour guide in Budapest. Representing Hungary and sharing its cultural depth with foreigners has long been a personal vocation of mine, wherever my professional path has taken me around the world. As a tour guide, I am committed to fostering a deeper understanding of Hungarian society, history, and identity. Budapest, the nation’s capital and a major cultural and historical stronghold, embodies the very essence of Hungary. By joining any of my tours, guests gain more than knowledge — they leave with a lasting connection to Hungarian culture. I look forward to guiding you through the city and showing it to you through my perspective.

My Story

My journey with Budapest began when I moved here at fourteen—a turning point that shaped both my identity and my professional direction. I completed secondary school at a Croatian minority institution in the city, where languages and cultural perspective were part of everyday life. I then stayed in Budapest for university, studying Slavonic Studies with a focus on Croatian, alongside minors in Polish and Slovenian. During my studies, I spent a semester at the University of Rijeka and lived on the Croatian coast—an experience that deepened my connection to the region and strengthened my intercultural confidence.

After graduating, I joined a one-year cultural exchange programme in the United States and lived in the Washington, D.C. area. That year made one thing unmistakably clear: wherever I am in the world, I instinctively represent Hungary. I have always enjoyed explaining our history and mentality, and I naturally became the person who introduced friends to Budapest—guiding them through the city with pride and genuine affection.

In 2019, I decided to turn this long-held passion into a formal qualification and enrolled in licensed tour guide training. In the same period, I began working with a travel agency as a tour escort and guide, including multi-day programmes in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina—a professional relationship that has continued ever since. I later completed my Master’s degree in International Relations (Diplomacy) at Corvinus University, then joined the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, building a parallel career in international cooperation and public service.

From autumn 2023, I lived in Brussels for nearly two years as a development policy diplomat at Hungary’s Permanent Representation to the European Union. Working in an intensely international environment only reinforced my sense of mission: to help foreigners understand Hungary with greater depth, nuance, and empathy. Today, guiding in Budapest feels like the most natural synthesis of my path—languages, diplomacy, and storytelling brought together in the city that, for me, captures Hungary’s essence most powerfully. I am always glad to welcome anyone who is curious about Budapest and to show the city—and Hungary—through my perspective.
